Publisher Description

It's 3 a.m. and Elizabeth Gilbert is sobbing on the bathroom floor. She's in her thirties, she has a husband, a house, they're trying for a baby - and she doesn't want any of it. A bitter divorce and a turbulent love affair later, she emerges battered and bewildered and realises it is time to pursue her own journey in search of three things she has been missing: pleasure, devotion and balance. So she travels to Rome, where she learns Italian from handsome, brown-eyed identical twins and gains twenty-five pounds, an ashram in India, where she finds that enlightenment entails getting up in the middle of the night to scrub the temple floor, and Bali where a toothless medicine man of indeterminate age offers her a new path to peace: simply sit still and smile. And slowly happiness begins to creep up on her.

User Reviews
  • A truly inspiring read. Written in a very personal tone which makes you feel as though you are on the journey and expereincing everything the author did. A book that inspired me to live life to the fullest, spoil the senses and nurture the spirt! Inspires and opens your eyes without lecturing! A must read for anyone looking to add an extra spice to their life. We should all eat, love and pray...

  • The type of book that pulls you in. Makes you feel like your having a conversation with an old friend. You feel the highs and lows with Liz. A win for her feels like a win for all us free spirits. Will definatley read this again and again.

  • If you are into traveling, then this is definitely your type of book. This story taught me to just go. Stop procrastinating - move forward and just do what you always wanted to do - nothing can hold you back unless you let it. It's about letting go of the past and exploring that big wide world out there. The author has definite wit with her writing, this book is very amusing in some parts, and very touching in others. She digs deep and is honest with readers, sometimes hitting raw spots. Probably more a ladies book than for men, but still would be inspiring to anyone who reads it.
