Isabel L. Beck, PhD, is Professor of Education in the School of Education and Senior Scientist at the Learning Research and Development Center, both at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a public school teacher before starting her career at the university, where she teaches reading education courses and conducts research.
