Description

Seventeen-year-old Eva is a chosen one. Chosen to live, while others meet a swift and painful death from an incurable virus so lethal, a person is dead within days of showing symptoms. She spends her days in the POD system, a series of underground habitats built by the government, as she waits with the other Chosen for the deadly virus to claim those above. The only balm for her broken soul is David, a fellow Chosen who helps to make survival worthwhile.

After a year underground, scientists believe the remaining population has died off, and the virus along with it. However, when the PODs are opened and the Chosen reach the surface, they discover the vicious truth: the virus has mutated, turning all those infected into monsters.

Will Eva and David escape the infected and achieve the future they dreamed of? Or will their fight for survival and prayers for a cure be in vain?

Critic Reviews

"All in all, I give it my rare 5 out of 5 stars with a warning: Do not pick this book up unless you've cleared your schedule for several hours!"--D.J. at The CurvyWriter Blog

"I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars! Super fun to read, and it has plenty of suspense and mystery. It's also unpredictable, and once you're pulled into the story it's unputdownable!"--Damaris at Good Choice Reading

"I live for books that keep me on my toes and keep me guessing all the way through. I like it when I have no idea how it will turn out. This is one of those books!"--Keren at Gothic Angel Book Reviews

"5 Stars! I loved this book. I have been kind of bogged down with dystopias lately, but this was amazing. It was so cool to see life before the 'event', to see Eva wrestle with her choices and then, to watch her change as she lived inside the PODs...Yes, there are zombies. Yes, there's a little romance. But I think, at its heart, PODs is a coming of age story about Eva and how she grows from a girl into a strong, decisive woman during this period of absolute destruction. And Pickett writes it beautifully."--Sherry Ficklin, author of Extracted

"I was blown away by this debut novel from Michelle Pickett! Rather than feeling like I was reading a book, I actually sometimes felt like I was actually watching the characters' lives progress; it was kind of weird! The emotions that Eva felt were so raw and real, and I think Michelle really captured the emotions that one would be feeling in a post apocalyptic world...PODs may very well be one of the next big things in YA, so I am very happy to have been one of the ones that was part of the beginning of it all! Congrats Michelle on your YA debut and I am looking forward to more by you! I gave PODs a well deserved 5/5 stars!"--Phil book reviewer at Stack of Hardbacks

"5 Stars. Pickett captures the raw emotions of a teenager ripped from her family, trying to find normalcy, and falling in love. You feel her grief and root for her until the end. I was pleasantly surprised that the book was not set entirely within the PODs. You get to learn what the world is like after a devastating virus, and how people rebuild. It was very fast moving and well thought out."--Tyler Jolley, author of Extracted

About the Author

Michelle has been an avid reader since a young child. She began writing for personal enjoyment in college, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in accounting. Deciding sitting in a cubical all day was cruel and unusual punishment, she decided to do what she really wanted to--share her passion for reading and writing with others.
