Annotation

When the driver leaves the bus temporarily, he gives the reader just one instruction: "Don't let the pigeon drive the bus!" But, boy, that pigeon tries every trick in the book to get in that driving seat: he whines, wheedles, fibs and flatters. Will you let him drive? Told entirely in speech bubble

The Pigeon is every child who ever wanted anything so bad they’d just die if they didn’t get it. We’ve all either heard, or used that line before. The book is introduced by the bus driver, who has to go over there for a bit, to do a thing, and could you please keep an eye on the pigeon who really, really, really wants to drive it, because he’s not allowed to. Enter the pigeon, who tries every trick in the book (and I’ve used a few of those myself too) to get into that bus. I love the illustrations; Mo Willems can do an awful lot with a few black lines and a couple of colours, and they do a good job of showing pigeon’s expressions throughout. The whole series of Pigeon books are genius, but this is perhaps my favourite. There is a little pigeon in all of us after all.
