Annotation

Suitable for a first course on differential equations taken primarily by science and engineering students, this book covers the topics on differential equations with applications drawn from various fields.

Publisher Description

Differential Equations for Engineers and Scientists is intended to be used in a first course on differential equations taken by science and engineering students. It covers the standard topics on differential equations with a wealth of applications drawn from engineering and science—with more engineering-specific examples than any other similar text. The text is the outcome of the lecture notes developed by the authors over the years in teaching differential equations to engineering students. Like Yunus Cengel's other texts, the material is introduced at a level that a typical student can follow comfortably, and the authors have made the text speak to the students and not over them. Differential Equations for Engineers and Scientists is written in plain language to help students learn the material without being hampered by excessive rigor or jargon. The friendly tone and the logical order are designed to motivate the student to read the book with interest and enthusiasm.

Author Biography

Yunus A. Cengel is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University. His areas of interest are renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy policies, heat transfer enhancement, and engineering education. He served as the Director of the Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) at the University of Nevada, Reno, from 1996 to 2000. He has led teams of engineering students to numerous manufacturing facilities in Northern Nevada and California to perform industrial assessments, and has prepared energy conservation, waste minimization, and productivity enhancement reports for them. He has also served as an advisor for various government organizations and corporations.Dr. Cengel is also the author or coauthor of the widely adopted textbooks Fundamentals of Thermal-Fluid Sciences, Heat and Mass Transfer: Fundamentals and Applications, and Introduction to Thermodynamics, all published by McGraw-Hill Education. Some of his textbooks have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Italian, Greek, and French.Dr. Cengel is the recipient of several outstanding teacher awards, and he has received the ASEE Meriam/Wiley Distinguished Author Award for excellence in authorship in 1992 and again in 2000. Dr. Cengel is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada, and is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). William J. Palm III e Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics presso la University of Rhode Island, dove ha contribuito a sviluppare un programma didattico di introduzione all'ingegneria basato su MATLAB. E autore di diversi libri tra i quali: System Dynamics, pubblicato da McGraw-Hill e Modeling, Analysis, and Control of Dynamic Systems e Mechanical Vibration, entrambi pubblicati da John Wiley.
