Publisher Description
"How Do You Know?" brings together in one volume the selected writings of author, commentator, broadcaster and critic, Zia Sardar. One of the UK's leading public intellectuals, Sardar most recently presented a documentary for the BBC, "Battle for Islam". A prolific writer, his columns in the "Observer" and "Independent", and his articles for the "New Statesman", have a wide and loyal readership. He is the author of over 40 books. In 2002, his book "Why Do People Hate America"? was a US bestseller, while his first volume of memoirs was published to great acclaim last year. In the 1970s and 1980s Sardar wrote a series of path-breaking books on Islam, science, education, and the environment of sustainable development. These include "Explorations in Islamic Science" (1989) and "Science, Values and the Environment in Islam and the West" (1982). This book brings together a selection of Sardar's earliest writings together with some of his latest work on cultural relations. Taking as key themes Islam, science and cultural relations, the material here is drawn from a huge range of sources and provides the ideal way in for students who want to get to grips with his thought. "How Do You Know?" is a companion volume for the previous Sardar reader Islam, "Postmodernism and Other Futures", published by Pluto in 2003.
