Carlo Collodi was born in Florence in Italy in 1826 and died in 1890. He was the eldest of ten children and like pinocchio was not a good student and was better known for his pranks than for his achievements. A librarian and then a volunteer in the Tuscan Army, Collodi also worked as a journalist and playwright. Pinocchio the story has been translated into most of the languages of the world.
