Berlin is a city that’s eternally evolving. As well as the urban precincts of Neukölln, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, there’s the emerging and gritty cultural epicentres of Wedding and Moabit, stacked with retro Berliner eateries, fringe galleries and some of the city’s most pulsing nightlife. Berlin Pocket Precincts is your curated guide to the city’s best cultural, shopping, eating and drinking experiences, and its most accessible and budget-friendly choices. Each precinct takes in one or more of Berlin’s traditional districts with insider reviews of both outstanding attractions and hidden gems, as well as easy-to-use maps. A selection of field trips also encourages you to venture further afield to Potsdam and Dresden.

About the Author

When Australian writer Julian Tompkin first visited Berlin, the East German parliamentary ‘palace’ was still standing beside the River Spree, and Potsdamer Platz was very much a work-in-progress. Both an academic and journalist, Julian writes for newspapers, magazines and broadcast media in both Germany and Australia on literature, music and art – and divides his time between Fremantle, Australia and Berlin with his German wife and their two children.
