LEONARD WEISGARD (1916-2000) frequently collaborated with his close friend Margaret Wise Brown. He was awarded the 1947 Caldecott Medal for The Little Island (Doubleday), written by Margaret Wise Brown under the pseudonym Golden MacDonald. That same year, Alvin Tresselt's Rain Drop Splash (Lothrop), also illustrated by Weisgard, was named a Caldecott Honor Book.
