About the Author

Dr. (Coach) Pat Ivey is the Assistant VP/Associate Athletics Director for Student Athlete Health and Performance at the University of Louisville. He oversees the departments of Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Sports Nutrition, Mental Health and Performance, and Sports Science. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Missouri, teaching a course in Foundations of Sport Performance via an online Masters' program in Positive Coaching. He has served at the University of Missouri as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Access and Leadership Development. In this role, he assisted with Community Engagement, Legislative Relations, and K-12 pipelining and programming. He lettered as a defensive end at Missouri from 1993 to 1995. In 1995, he was honored as being the strongest athlete in the history of Missouri. In 1996, he was signed as a free agent by the San Diego Chargers. Beginning in 1998, Ivey worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Missouri. He started his graduate assistantship after spending time with the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers in the late 1990s. His wife, Dr. Starla Ivey, is a college professor and they have two daughters, Paisli and Serena.Dr. Starla Ivey is a Professor and worked as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Personal Financial Planning Department at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) for over thirteen years. She taught the Personal and Family Finance course in the undergraduate program and handled undergraduate curriculum. She has also taught for Oklahoma State University. She has both her BS and MS in Personal Financial Planning (Consumer and Family Economics) and a PhD in Human Resource Education, all from the University of Missouri. Before working as an assistant teaching professor, she worked several years as an educational technology specialist and a recruitment and retention specialist at the collegiate level. She has also worked for State Farm Mutual Insurance, Shelter Insurance, the State of Missouri--Department of Corrections--Accounting Department, and also the Missouri Division of Highway Safety. She is married to Patrick Ivey who holds a PhD in Sports Psychology and they have two daughters, Paisli and Serena.Derek Legé, Jr. is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is a graduate from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas. He earned his bachelor's degree at Texas Southern University in Health Science. He continued his passion for strength and conditioning at the University of Missouri as a graduate assistant while obtaining a master's degree in Education in Counseling, Education, and Sport Psychology. Coach Legé spent four years at the New Mexico State University as an Assistant Director of Sports Performance and the Director of Nutrition and Student Life Wellness. He currently stands as the Director of Athletic Performance at the University of Texas at Tyler. The past ten years, his interest has continued to grow in personal development, finance, investing, and money management.He is happily married to Angel Legé for five years and has four children--Torri, Derek, Amyah, and Amiah.Akeem Robinson is the Head of Strength and Conditioning at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, and has been a Director of Olympic Sports with ten year of experience ranging from NAIA level to Division I. Coach Robinson earned his masters from the University of Missouri in Positive coaching in Psychology, where he worked as a graduate assistant, working with football, cross country, and track and field performance training. Additionally, he helped with social responsibility initiative, "Men for Men," and was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes liaison for the strength staff. During his undergrad, Robinson was a four-year letter winner at Clemson University, and played in four bowl games.Mackenzie oversees Operations & Brand Management and is the integrator for Pat Ivey Performance, connecting the overarching visions with the day-to-day operations to drive results.
