Description

When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. She has no idea how she got there or what her purpose is - but she knows she needs to survive. After battling a fierce storm and escaping a vicious bear attack, she realises that her only hope for survival is to adapt to her surroundings and learn from the island's unwelcoming animal inhabitants. As Roz slowly befriends the animals, the island starts to feel like home - until, one day, her mysterious past comes back to haunt her.

From bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator Peter Brown comes a heartwarming and action-packed novel about what happens when nature and technology collide. By turns funny, moving, surprising and dramatic, this is a novel that is as thought-provoking as it is enchanting.

Critic Reviews

A boldly original and beguiling wild adventure. Piers Torday, author of THE LAST WILD
An engaging tale that explores many important themes. We can only hope that Roz serves as the template for all future robots. Peter Brown's illustrations are as marvellous as ever! Coralie Bickford-Smith, author of THE FOX AND THE STAR
The Wild Robot has all the pathos and grace of The Iron Giant or a Studio Ghibli animation. It is nonetheless its own thing, a delicate, touching tale of survival, friendship and family. Financial Times
A strikingly illustrated novel... a beautiful story in so many ways, with a lot of depth about what it means to be a parent, to be part of a community, to be different, to make mistakes, to care for others and to overcome others' distrust. Juno Magazine
This is such an odd, original, thought-provoking and heartwarming tale. The book is a meditation on what it is to be human and, at the same time, an incredibly fun adventure. Readers will lose their heart to Roz and it's a truly gripping read. The illustrations are also enigmatic and beautiful. This is really a perfect children's book that stays with you long after finishing; a modern-day classic in the making. Booktrust
A heartfelt story for ages six-plus about how even the oddest of us can find friends - we need Peter Brown to tell his fellow Americans how what seems strange and threatening can turn into love and joy. New Statesman
A moving and captivating tale about friendship and emotion, it is also beautifully illustrated by the author. WRD Magazine
Robot sentience meets maternal love in the renowned author-illustrator Peter Brown's first foray into writing for older children, The Wild Robot (Piccadilly). Reminiscent of Ted Hughes's novel The Iron Man, with some of the curious, timeless quality of William Steig's Abel's Island. Times Literary Supplement
