Peter Clarke is Professor of Modern History and a Fellow of St John's College, Cambridge. He is the author of volume nine of the Penguin History of Britain, Hope and Glory, Britain 1900-1990. He writes regularly on history and politics for The Times Literary Supplement and the London Review of Books.
