Buyback Terms and Conditions

Last updated: March 16, 2022

By selling any book or other materials to The Nile Group (or its affiliates, as The Nile Group may determine in its sole discretion) (each, as appropriate, the “Purchaser”) you (the “Seller”) are agreeing to these Buyback Terms and Conditions.

Buyback program

  • Buyback is only available to customers located in Australia.
  • The Nile Group will only buy back selected textbooks, so check the ISBN in our Buyback search to start the process. An ISBN is a 13 digit number that identifies each unique book.
  • We will update the list as often as possible however once we have reached our Buyback capacity on any title, we reserve the right to refuse books which may still be listed online.

When you’ve got books to sell, the process couldn’t be simpler. Here’s how it works:

  1. Go to the website: Head to Student VIP (, where it’s easy to buy, rent or sell college textbooks.
  2. Search for your book: Type the ISBN of your textbook into the search bar. If the Purchaser is currently buying this book you will be presented with an offer.
  3. Accept the offer: If the offer for the book seems good to you, accept it and you will be directed to The Nile Group’s site to complete the checkout process.
  4. We’ll email you a shipping label: Once you have made an offer to us by completing the checkout process, we will send through a shipping label and instructions to you via email within 1-2 business days.
  5. Mail your book to The Nile Group: All purchases of books are to The Nile Group. Just print out the label we send you, put it on the package, and drop your book off to us at the nearest post office.
  6. Receive payment: Get money deposited to your PayPal account as soon as the book is received and inspected in our warehouse. If it meets our quality criteria, payment will be deposited to your PayPal account. From when we receive the book to when payment is made is usually 1-2 business days.

You will have 30 days from completing checkout (as in step 3 above) to send the book in to us. After that time, if we have not received the book, the agreement to purchase will be considered cancelled and the Purchaser reserves the right to refuse payment on any book part of the agreement that is received after that time period.

The list prices displayed on the The Nile Group Buyback program come from bibliographic information we receive from leading third-party sources and publishers. Each list price is the publisher's suggested retail price. To the fullest extent permitted under applicable law, The Nile Group or any of its affiliates is not responsible for errors in that third-party data, including prices for the sale or purchase (Buyback) of books. If a title does not have a publisher's suggested list price, the The Nile Group or any of its affiliates may not show a list price in the online catalogue. If a product is listed at an incorrect price due to typographical error or an error in pricing information received from our suppliers or for any other reason, The Nile Group shall have the right to refuse or cancel any Buyback (to the fullest extent permitted under applicable law), whether or not the Buyback has been confirmed and your method of payment charged.

The Buyback list will be kept up to date as much as possible, but The Nile Group may reach a maximum of a particular title. As such, The Nile Group reserves the right to cancel any Buyback transaction processed through the Buyback program. If a cancellation happens, the Purchaser will make every effort to contact the textbook Seller to inform them of the cancellation. Books that are received but not accepted will be destroyed unless the textbook Seller informs the Purchaser that they wish the book back and are willing to be charged for shipping the item to them.

Book Condition for Acceptance

Books provisionally accepted on the website, where the Seller goes through the checkout process, need to be sent in to The Nile Group. Upon arrival at The Nile Group’s warehouse, the books will be inspected. Any books that have the following issues are grounds for refusal:

  • Books have excessive writing, marking or highlighting on the pages
  • Broken spine or binding
  • Missing, torn, or loose pages
  • Stains or any water damage
  • Burns or rips
  • Any other significant damage
  • If the edition is an International or Teachers edition (seen in the first twenty pages that say “Teacher’s Edition” or “International Edition”, or markings on the spine, top or bottom that say IE or TE)

It is unlawful to sell counterfeit books. You can be liable to the Purchaser, The Nile Group, and to the book publisher for counterfeiting and copyright infringement, among other claims, if the books that you sell to the Purchaser are counterfeit even if you are not aware that your book is counterfeit.

ACCURATE IDENTIFYING INFORMATION. The Nile Group requires all textbook suppliers to provide and maintain true and accurate identifying information including full legal names and correct company names (if applicable), correct physical addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses. Use of aliases or P.O. boxes are unacceptable. Suppliers agree to update their identifying information regularly and to respond to any requests by The Nile Group to verify their identifying information.

ONE ACCOUNT. You may only sell books or other materials to the Purchaser using one account and one email address. Registering multiple accounts or using multiple email addresses, or any other attempt to circumvent Buyback program policies, may result in immediate termination of all accounts, a permanent supplier ban, and investigation of selling practices for evidence of counterfeiting.

NO REBOUND BOOKS. The Nile Group does not accept any books or other materials that have been re-bound regardless of the condition. Do not attempt to sell re-bound books through this program.

INVESTIGATIONS AND SHARING OF INFORMATION. In the event of an audit or investigation involving a book you have sold through this program, we will share information about you with the relevant authorities and parties, including your identifying information, account information, book selling history, and payment history. We can suspend your account and delay payments to you while we investigate.

SURRENDERING BOOKS AND PAYMENTS. If it is determined that any book you sold is suspected or confirmed to be counterfeit, you hereby surrender it. We will destroy the book or transfer it to the publisher and will not pay you for the book or return it to you. If we have already paid you for a known or suspected counterfeit book and there is a credit balance on your account, you agree that we can deduct the payment for the counterfeit book from the credit on your account.

TITLE TO YOUR BOOK. When you sell your books through this program, title to those books remains with you until they are received and inspected at The Nile Group’s warehouse.

The Nile Group reserves the right to suspend or terminate all accounts and/or offers made to individuals not in compliance with these Buyback Terms and Conditions.
