Plutarch
Plutarch (c. AD 45-120)
Plutarch was a Greek philosopher who lived during the height of the Roman Empire. He is the author of one of the largest collections of writings to have survived from Classical antiquity.
His work is traditionally divided into two main categories:
- The Moralia: This extensive collection includes a vast range of philosophical, scientific, moral, and rhetorical works.
- The Lives: Nearly fifty of these biographies survive, most notably from his collection of Parallel Lives. In this work, Plutarch pairs biographies of prominent Greek and Roman statesmen.
