Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill OBE was the creator of the beloved children’s character, Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and later an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric invented a story about a small puppy for his son’s bedtime, thus bringing Spot to life. His first book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, complemented by a simple narrative and endearing, whimsical illustrations. The immediate popularity of Where’s Spot? inspired Eric to dedicate himself full-time to writing. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally and have been adapted into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
