Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill OBE was the creator of the beloved children’s character, Spot the puppy. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, which led him to a career as a cartoonist and later, an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived the character of Spot while creating a bedtime story for his son. The first Spot book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. It featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, accompanied by a simple narrative and charming, distinctive illustrations. The book’s immediate popularity inspired Eric to pursue a career as a full-time author.
Since then, Spot books have been cherished by children globally and have expanded into various formats, including audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
