Gary Soto is a poet, essayist, and novelist. His books have received numerous awards and critical acclaim. Too Many Tamales was named a Booklist Editor’s Choice. Baseball in April was nominated as a Best Book for Young Adults and Chato’s Kitchen as a Notable Children’s Book, both honors awarded by the Association of Library Service to Children.
Susan Guevara has illustrated numerous children’s books. She has twice won the Pura Belpré Award for outstanding illustration: for this book and for Chato’s Kitchen. She studied art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium and at the San Francisco Art Academy.
