Michael Garland
Born on 34th Street in Manhattan, the author’s parents hailed from Queens. After his father returned from World War II and joined the NYPD, the family, including a sister and two brothers, moved from their Stuyvesant Town apartment to Staten Island.
Childhood was spent exploring the woods, playing sports, and drawing, which became a standout talent. While not the brightest student or best athlete, drawing was where the author excelled, with his artwork consistently displayed. This early passion sparked an interest in becoming an artist.
Following high school, he attended Pratt Institute to study art. He supported himself by cleaning floors in a nursing home and driving a cab. His first illustration was sold to True Confessions magazine shortly after graduation, launching a thirty-year career in illustration. He now has twenty-three books in print with more on the way.
Along his journey, he married Peggy, and they raised three children: Katie, Alice, and Kevin. Two children are currently in college, and one is preparing to start. The family resides in Putnam County, New York.
Sixteen years ago, the author decided to pursue writing alongside his art. With sixteen published books to his name, he continues to create.
