About The Author
Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric devised a story about a small puppy to read to his son at bedtime, and Spot was created. He published “Where’s Spot?” in 1980, an interactive children’s book featuring a groundbreaking lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and charming, distinctive illustrations. The book’s immediate success prompted him to dedicate himself fully to writing. Spot books have since been enjoyed by children globally, alongside adaptations in audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
