Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill was the beloved creator of the children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and later serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son featuring a small puppy, thus giving birth to Spot. The iconic book Where’s Spot? was published in 1980, introducing a groundbreaking interactive lift-the-flap format alongside a simple narrative and endearing, whimsical illustrations. The book’s immediate triumph inspired Eric to dedicate himself to writing full-time. Since then, Spot books have captivated children globally, leading to the creation of audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
