Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and then an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a story about a small puppy to read to his son before bed, thus bringing Spot to life. His first book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, accompanied by a simple narrative and endearing, distinctive illustrations. The book’s instant success prompted Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally and have been adapted into audio books, animations, toys, and games.
