Hill, Eric
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot.
He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and then an art director at a prominent advertising agency. In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, and thus, Spot was created.
His first book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap design, coupled with a straightforward narrative and endearing, distinctive illustrations. Its instant popularity inspired Eric to pursue a full-time career as an author. The Spot books have since been cherished by children globally and have been adapted into audio books, animations, toys, and games.
