William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare

Born to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden in late April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s greatest dramatist. He penned approximately 38 plays, many of which are considered exceptional works of drama, including:

  • Romeo and Juliet (1595)
  • Henry V (1599)
  • Hamlet (1601)
  • Othello (1604)
  • King Lear (1606)
  • Macbeth (1606)

In addition to his plays, Shakespeare also produced a collection of 154 sonnets, which remain some of the most profound and influential love poems in English literature.

Shakespeare died in Stratford in 1616.
