Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill OBE was the creator of the beloved children’s character, Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning into cartooning and eventually serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son featuring a small puppy, thus bringing Spot to life. His groundbreaking interactive children’s book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This pioneering work combined a novel lift-the-flap format with a simple narrative and captivating, distinctive illustrations.
The immediate success of Where’s Spot? inspired Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have brought joy to children globally, extending into audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
