Ruth Behar
Ruth Behar is an ethnographer, novelist, poet, and filmmaker. She is the James W. Fernandez Distinguished University Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan.
Behar is the recipient of numerous awards, including two Fulbright Awards, a MacArthur “Genius Grant,” and a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. She was named a “Great Immigrant” by the Carnegie Corporation and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
She is the author of several works of ethnography, including:

Born in Havana, Cuba, Ruth Behar grew up in New York. She has also lived in Spain and Mexico. She currently resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
