Burne Hogarth (1911-1996) was an iconic cartoonist and influential arts educator, hailed as the “Michelangelo of the comic strip.” He is best known for his innovative illustrations of the syndicated Sunday Tarzan, where he combined classicism, expressionism, and narrative in a powerful new way. As a cofounder of the School of Visual Arts, one of the world’s leading art schools, Hogarth brought his unique approach to art into the classroom. His work has been exhibited in prominent galleries worldwide, including the Louvre and Marseilles’ Bibliothèque, and he received numerous international awards and accolades throughout his life.
