Margaret Baker
Charles Baker is a former meteorologist with the National Weather Service and an avid gardener. With his late wife, Margaret Baker, he co-authored Orchid Species Culture: Dendrobium and Orchid Species Culture: Pescatorea, Phaius, Phalaenopsis, Pholidota, Phragmipedium, and Pleione. Together, they also published numerous articles in Orchids (the publication of the American Orchid Society) and Orchid Digest.
The Bakers lived and worked in Alaska for most of their careers. Charlie was a meteorologist for over thirty years, while Margaret was a scrimshaw artist, jewelry maker, and administrator in the Alaskan bush.
After relocating to Portland, Oregon, they became passionate amateur orchid enthusiasts. They frequently contributed to publications such as Orchids, Orchid Advocate, and Orchid Hunter.
Margaret Baker was a prolific contributor to the American Orchid Society Bulletin. She was a dedicated amateur orchid enthusiast and, alongside her husband Charles, co-authored two books on orchid species culture. Margaret passed away in 2003.
