Hisashi Kashiwai was born in 1952 and raised in Kyoto. He graduated from Osaka Dental University and subsequently returned to Kyoto to practice dentistry. Kashiwai has written extensively about his native city and has collaborated on television programs and magazine features. The Restaurant of Lost Recipes is the second book in his series, following The Kamogawa Food Detectives.
