About The Author

David Michelinie

David Michelinie

David Michelinie began his writing career on DC horror titles before moving to Marvel. Alongside co-writer/inker Bob Layton, he established Iron Man’s struggles with alcoholism, his use of specialized armor variants, and his vendetta against Doctor Doom, aspects of the character that remain influential today. Michelinie’s distinctive blend of action, suspense, and humor also distinguished his work on Amazing Spider-Man. With artist Todd McFarlane, he introduced the formidable villain Venom and penned the first Venom limited series, Lethal Protector. Michelinie’s tenure as the writer of Amazing Spider-Man was the second longest in the title’s history, surpassed only by Stan Lee. He also contributed to tie-in titles such as Spectacular Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Spider-Man. Later, he transitioned from Marvel’s flagship characters to DC, writing Action Comics before returning to the world of Tony Stark for collaborative projects with Bob Layton on Iron Man: Legacy of Doom and Iron Man: The End.

Erik Larsen

Following stints at AC Comics and Eclipse, Erik Larsen took over from Todd McFarlane on Amazing Spider-Man, quickly establishing his own legendary status by chronicling Spider-Man’s cosmic-powered and powerless phases. His other Marvel credits include Defenders, Fantastic Four, Nova, and Wolverine. At DC, he has provided pencils for Doom Patrol, Outsiders, Teen Titans, and others. Larsen’s greatest renown comes from his creation of Savage Dragon at Image Comics, a company he helped found and where he served as publisher for four years.

Charles Vess

Charles Vess wrote and/or penciled stories for multiple Marvel anthologies, most notably Epic Illustrated. At DC, he contributed artwork to Books of Magic, Swamp Thing, and Sandman. Vess and Sandman writer Neil Gaiman later reunited for Stardust, which was adapted into a film, and other projects, including the children’s book Blueberry Girl. Their collaborations have garnered multiple accolades, including two World Fantasy Awards.

Mark Bagley

Hired based on his Official Marvel Tryout pencilling submission, Mark Bagley rose to prominence as the artist of the 1990s hit New Warriors. After an acclaimed run on Amazing Spider-Man, he collaborated with writer Kurt Busiek on Thunderbolts. When Marvel launched its Ultimate line, Bagley and Brian Michael Bendis spearheaded Ultimate Spider-Man, achieving years of success and becoming the longest-running creative team in Marvel history. Bendis and Bagley have also worked together on Avengers Assemble and the creator-owned series Brilliant. His subsequent credits include Fantastic Four, Cataclysm: The Ultimates’ Last Stand, Hulk, All-New X-Men, and Venom.
