Mark Waid
Mark Waid is a New York Times best-selling author with a career spanning nearly three decades in the comics industry. He has written thousands of issues for every major company, including notable runs on Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, Ka-Zar, and Fantastic Four.
Waid’s collaboration with painter Alex Ross on Kingdom Come earned an Eisner Award for Best Limited Series. He also received critical acclaim for the Eisner Award-winning Daredevil, a revered collaboration with frequent artistic partner Chris Samnee. His other works include projects featuring diverse pop-cultural icons such as Princess Leia and Archie, and he ushered in a new era for Avengers. His Marvel work extends to Black Widow, Captain America, Champions, and Doctor Strange.
Mike Wieringo established himself as a leading comic-book artist with his work on DC’s Flash alongside writer Mark Waid, a run that included the debut of Impulse. Wieringo’s continued collaboration with Waid brought him to Fantastic Four in 2002, where they launched their tenure with a historic nine-cent first issue. His ability to depict dynamic action made him well-suited to launch Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in 2005 with writer Peter David.
Howard Porter began his comics career in 1988 as an inking assistant. After his first penciling work on The Ray, he illustrated titles such as Lobo, Hawkman, Underworld Unleashed, and most notably, JLA. Following a hiatus, he returned in 2003 to pencil Fantastic Four.
Paul Smith, a former animator for cartoonist Ralph Bakshi, penciled Uncanny X-Men during a significant run that saw Rogue join the team, Storm’s controversial makeover, Wolverine’s near-marriage, and Cyclops’ wedding to Madelyne Pryor. He then moved to Doctor Strange, Marvel Fanfare, and other titles, later drawing the acclaimed X-Men/Alpha Flight miniseries. With James Robinson, he created DC’s groundbreaking Golden Age miniseries, focusing on the publisher’s wartime heroes. His work for other companies includes First’s Grimjack and Image’s Leave It to Chance. He returned to Marvel to pencil the miniseries Kitty Pryde: Shadow and Flame, revisiting themes from his Uncanny X-Men work.
