Captain America by Mark Gruenwald Omnibus Vol. 2

Mark Gruenwald (1953-1996) was a transformative writer and editor at Marvel Comics. He is celebrated for his pioneering work on the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and his seminal creation, Squadron Supreme. Gruenwald also penned over a hundred issues of Captain America, multiple Marvel Two-in-One sagas, and several miniseries, including Contest of Champions, Marvel’s first multi-hero epic. He delved into the Marvel Universe’s ancient history through a series of What If? backup stories, which he also illustrated.

Kieron Dwyer has been a professional comic book artist since the late 1980s, with a career extending into film, television, books, and advertising. He co-created the animated series Swing Town, taught at the Academy of Art College, and produced storyboards for projects like Batman Beyond. His artwork was notably featured in the film Sky High. Dwyer’s extensive Marvel credits include a long tenure penciling Captain America, shorter stints on Avengers and Thing, and contributions to titles such as Avengers Spotlight, Classic X-Men, Deadpool/GLI: Summer Fun Spectacular, Solo Avengers, and X-Factor. Beyond Marvel, he has worked on DC projects like Action Comics and Batman, and co-created independent comics such as Night Mary, Remains, Last of the Independents, and Sea of Red.

Rich Buckler solidified his place in Marvel history by introducing Deathlok in Astonishing Tales. He also penciled numerous storylines for Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man, along with runs on Black Panther in Jungle Action, Fantastic Four, Thor, and other monthly titles. Buckler illustrated Roy Thomas’s miniseries Saga of the Sub-Mariner and Saga of the Original Human Torch. His 1970s DC work includes Lois Lane, Secret Society of Super-Villains, and World’s Finest, as well as the landmark Superman vs. Shazam. In the 1980s, he and Thomas collaborated on All-Star Squadron. Buckler worked in the barbarian and horror genres for both Marvel and DC, illustrated Archie’s Mighty Crusaders, and contributed to black-and-white magazines for Marvel and Warren Publishing. He also served as editor for the short-lived Solson Publications and authored two books on comic book art.

Al Milgrom, known as “Editori-Al,” is a versatile talent recognized as a writer, editor, penciler, and inker. He held multiple roles on Spectacular Spider-Man and also contributed to Amazing Spider-Man. Milgrom penciled West Coast Avengers for four years and inked X-Factor for eight. His artwork has graced titles such as Avengers, Captain America, Thor, and most X-titles, including the celebrated Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. As an editor, he oversaw Marvel’s Epic imprint and the sixty-issue run of Marvel Fanfare, where his satirical self-portraits became as iconic as any superhero mask. At DC, he co-created Firestorm the Nuclear Man with Gerry Conway.
