Marvel Two-In-One Omnibus Vol. 1

• Steve Gerber (1947-2008) first gained recognition for his work on Defenders, offering the team a unique and unconventional perspective. He introduced Howard the Duck in Adventure into Fear. His other 1970s contributions include scripts for Iron Man and Sub-Mariner. He is also remembered for DC’s Phantom Zone and Eclipse Comics’ Destroyer Duck.

• Bill Mantlo began his Marvel career on Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, where he introduced White Tiger, one of the industry’s first Hispanic superheroes. He wrote for nearly every Marvel title, with memorable runs on Incredible Hulk and Spectacular Spider-Man. He launched Cloak and Dagger in miniseries and guided Alpha Flight through challenging storylines. Mantlo excelled at integrating licensed properties, writing Micronauts and Rom: Spaceknight from beginning to end. At DC, he wrote the Invasion miniseries, a major crossover event.

• Marv Wolfman, an award-winning writer since 1973, succeeded Roy Thomas as Marvel’s editor-in-chief. He is well-known for his scripts for Tomb of Dracula and had runs on Dr. Strange, Fantastic Four, and Nova. His 1980s collaboration with George Perez, New Teen Titans, became a major hit for DC Comics. Wolfman and Perez reshaped DC’s history with Crisis on Infinite Earths. He also wrote episodes for animated series like G.I. Joe and Transformers.

• Sal Buscema, after starting as an inker for his brother John, went on to pencil Captain America, Defenders, Incredible Hulk, and more. Known for his ability to meet deadlines, he worked across various genres. His 1970s work includes Ms. Marvel, Nova, Sub-Mariner, and Spider-Woman’s debut in Marvel Spotlight. He was the sole artist on Spectacular Spider-Man for over one hundred issues and penciled Spider-Man in Marvel Team-Up, where he and Bill Mantlo introduced Captain Jean DeWolff. He also contributed to The Thing’s Marvel Two-in-One, reunited with his brother John on Steve Englehart’s Fantastic Four, and later inked Spider-Girl and Thunderstrike miniseries.

• Ron Wilson began penciling The Thing’s adventures in Marvel Two-in-One in 1975 and continued for most of the title’s run, later illustrating the follow-up series The Thing until 1986. Wilson also contributed art to Avengers, Captain Britain, Power Man, and the entire run of Marvel’s licensed Masters of the Universe series. At DC, he provided character designs for the Milestone imprint.

• Jim Starlin is credited with creating Thanos, Shang-Chi, and many other notable characters. After seemingly killing Adam Warlock and Thanos in early Marvel cosmic storylines, for which he won two Eagle Awards, Starlin wrote Marvel’s first graphic novel, The Death of Captain Marvel. Returning to Marvel, he wrote Silver Surfer, resurrecting Adam Warlock and Thanos. Both characters played significant roles in a series of miniseries he wrote and/or penciled, including Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War, Infinity Crusade, Infinity Abyss, and the Warlock and the Infinity Watch and Thanos monthlies. Starlin continued the saga of Thanos in recent original graphic novels.
