About The Author

Mark Gruenwald

Mark Gruenwald (1953-1996) was a highly influential writer and editor at Marvel Comics. He is celebrated for his pioneering work on The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and his seminal creation, Squadron Supreme. Gruenwald also penned over a hundred issues of Captain America, wrote multiple storylines for Marvel Two-in-One, and authored several miniseries, including Contest of Champions, Marvel’s first multi-hero saga. He delved into the Marvel Universe’s ancient history through a series of What If? backup stories, which he also penciled.

Roy Thomas began his career at Marvel as a writer and editor under Stan Lee, scripting significant runs for nearly every major title of the era, including Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Sub-Mariner, Thor, and X-Men. He wrote the first ten years of Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword of Conan, and launched series such as Defenders, Iron Fist, Invaders, and Warlock. At DC Comics, he developed All-Star Squadron, Infinity Inc., and related titles, playing a crucial role in reviving the Golden Age Justice Society of America. Thomas later served as editor of Alter Ego, a magazine focused on comic book history, and co-scripted the sword-and-sorcery films Fire and Ice and Conan the Destroyer.
