Summary

No longer a newbie vet, Luke Gamble takes over Pilgrims veterinary practice in Dorset and establishes an international veterinary charity, Worldwide Veterinary Service, which takes him across the world in defence of injured and maltreated animals.

Alongside his forays into foreign parts, there are the usual assortment of small and large animals (and their owners!) to keep Luke busy at home.

What They're Saying

Critics Review

a James Herriott for the 21st century. - Choice Magazine

Hang on to your seat belts - from the first page, the adventures of West Country vet Luke Gamble come thick and fast … the whirlwind pace will keep you turning the pages. - Your Dog

Highly recommended: an interesting and romping good read that surprises and shocks at times, but most of all earns admiration for vets like Luke - Dogs Monthly

Luke’s exploits never cease to amaze … Here’s hoping that one day we can all sit down and watch this as a Sunday night TV series! - Petfocus

There’s something rather endearing about Gamble’s zest for life and his deep love of animals, which imbue his stories with authenticity and humour and make one feel lazy and unfulfilled, even when the characters and their four-legged friends raise a smile - Daily Mail

About The Author

Luke Gamble

Luke Gamble graduated from Bristol University in 1999 as a vet and then went on to Cambridge to specialise in large animal medicine and surgery. Primarily based in his New Forest practice, Pilgrims, his extra curricular work with the Worldwide Veterinary Service charity ‘which he founded in 2003’ takes him much further afield and was the subject of two TV series on Sky 1. He also runs an emergency service for animals in Dorset and a pet travel company. Luke is a black belt in karate, has run 152 miles across the Sahara to raise money for his charity ‘and to impress his wife’ and in 2010 was awarded the JA Wight ‘James Herriot’ Award by the British Small Animal Veterinary Association for outstanding contributions to the welfare of companion animals. Luke is married ‘to a vet’ and lives in New Forest with his three children, Angel the ridgeback and a bossy rescue cat called Charlie.

The Vet: my wild and wonderful friends was his first book, which he followed-up with The Vet: the big wild world.
