About The Author
Russell Scott
Russell Scott discovered his passion for wood carving in 1999 during his first community education class. He was immediately captivated by the craft, working with hand tools and a variety of woods like basswood, catalpa, red cedar, butternut, aspen, and pine. His initial project, a Santa Claus figure, he considered a masterpiece.
Since then, Russell has honed his skills through numerous carving classes with diverse instructors, extensive study of woodworking literature and media, and collaborative work with fellow carvers. This continuous learning has allowed him to develop his unique style, with a particular specialization in human figures, especially Santa Claus.
Each of his carvings is meticulously crafted by hand, free-form, from models he develops using computer software and drawings. Following the carving process, he applies paint to further enhance the character of each piece. Russell primarily works with basswood and cottonwood bark. His creations have been recognized with awards at various carving shows, county and state fairs, and national carving contests.
