Summary

Rumi’s short poems possess a diverse range of tones and effects: some are quick, joyful, and whimsical; others are finely faceted abstract statements; and some probe the inner space of patience and longing. Moyne and Barks have translated these poems in a free-verse style, drawing connections between them and the works of great American spiritual poets like Walt Whitman and Gary Snyder.
