Summary

Warrior supreme Guts, the Black Swordsman, has seen better days - and more popular - in the kingdom of Midland, a land he once defended as captain of the Band of the Hawk. But the Hawks were betrayed and slaughtered, and now the holier-than-thou Holy Iron Chain Knights have captured Guts and plan to whip some repentance into him - literally. But Guts isn’t so easily held at bay, and when he manages to escape with the Holy Knights’ leader, Farnese, as his hostage, the demons that are drawn to Guts’ Brand of Sacrifice are all too willing to show her the teeming darkness in her own soul.

About The Author

Kentaro Miura

Kentaro Miura debuted his 48-page manga Berserk Prototype in 1988 while attending Nihon University. This work served as an introduction to the Berserk fantasy world and earned him a prize from the Comi Manga School.

In 1989, after receiving his doctorate degree, Miura began work on King of Wolves, a project based on a script by Buronson, the writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).

The first volume of Berserk was released in 1990, achieving limited success. Miura also collaborated with Buronson again on a manga titled Japan. Miura’s fame significantly grew with the “The Golden Age” story arc of Berserk. The immense success of this masterpiece established him as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.

In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk, which aired that same year on NTV. The series has since spawned a wide range of merchandise, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game.

In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. He resides in Tokyo, Japan.
