Kentaro Miura
Kentaro Miura debuted Berserk Prototype, a 48-page manga introducing the Berserk fantasy world, in 1988 while attending Nihon University. It earned him a prize from the Comi Manga School. After receiving a doctorate degree in 1989, Miura began work on King of Wolves, based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).
The first volume of Berserk was released in 1990, achieving limited success. Miura later collaborated with Buronson again on the manga Japan. Miura’s fame surged after Berserk’s “The Golden Age” story arc, and the immense success of this masterpiece established him as a prominent contemporary manga artist.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk, which aired that year on NTV. The series has since inspired a wide range of merchandise, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. He resides in Tokyo, Japan.
