Critics Review
Manny likes to choose his own outfits, but sometimes they do not match what’s happening outside. Mami demonstrates the weather and temperature on her phone’s weather app, but Manny wants to know what clothes work best by himself. Manny uses visual clues to discern the weather outside, like checking for rain or snow. He also feels the temperature to adjust his outfits. Manny finally decides to mix and match so his outfits cover weather, temperature, and other aspects like rain or sunshine. This bilingual Spanish/English board book is intended to help young children learn about weather patterns, temperatures, how to check for changes, and appropriate attire. Lacika’s text is clear and age appropriate. Muñoz Estrada’s illustrations use vibrant colors and specific details to denote the different weather patterns, temperatures, and textures in Manny’s outfits. The text and illustrations are well matched. It is also available in separate English and Spanish editions. Educators can use the included tips and guided questions in STEAM curriculum. VERDICT This vibrantly illustrated bilingual title is a great introduction to weather and temperature concepts and would be a good addition to preschool STEAM curricula and library collections.—School Library Journal
