Critics Review

Winner of the 2020 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Anthology!

“This celebration of queer voices in comics is a must for all libraries.” —School Library Journal (Starred review)

“An utterly delightful and expansive collection of queer voices and truths.” —Kirkus Reviews (Starred review)

“There is a lot to love about the new queer anthology Be Gay, Do Comics. Be Gay, Do Comics winningly weaves humorous cartoons with deeply personal short-form comics and historical comic strips to offer an entertaining and informative read… Such unvarnished queer truth is refreshing and affirming.” —The Advocate

“This is an overall invigorating sampler of the current queer cartooning scene and a celebration of the sheer breadth and diversity of experiences it reflects.” —Publishers Weekly

“The art is great and as widely varied as the stories themselves.” —Book Riot

“A powerfully emotional read – from laugh-out-loud single page gag comics poking fun at the ludicrous concept of gender reveal parties, to harrowing gay histories. Read Levi Hastings and Dorian Alexander’s biographical The Life of Gad Beck: Gay. Jewish. Nazi Fighter and just try to hold back the tears, the sense of fear, the rush of pride.” —Gayming Mag

“Hilarious, poignant, and enlightening, it offers a nuanced look at queer history—one that starts far earlier than the Stonewall riots—and intimate perspectives from cartoonists grappling with identity.” —School Library Journal, Best Graphic Novels of 2020
