Jared Cullum
Jim Henson was an American puppeteer, animator, cartoonist, actor, filmmaker, and writer who is best known as the creator of The Muppets.
Henson began his television career in the late 1950s. His early work included Sam and Friends, a five-minute show that aired locally in Washington, D.C. Sam and Friends was experimental, using a new form of puppetry and quick cuts that would become a hallmark of Henson’s style. He also created the characters of Ernie and Bert for Sesame Street, and later, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and many others for The Muppet Show.
The Muppet Show was an international success, running from 1976 to 1981. It was a variety show that featured musical numbers, sketches, and celebrity guests, all performed by the Muppets. Henson’s work with the Muppets earned him numerous awards, including several Emmy Awards.
Beyond the Muppets, Henson also created other beloved characters and films, including Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth. His work often explored themes of imagination, friendship, and the importance of creativity. Henson died in 1990 at the age of 53, but his legacy continues to live on through the characters and stories he created.
