Colin Thubron
Colin Thubron is a master of classic travel writing and a previous winner of the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award. His early writing focused on the Middle East, covering Damascus, Lebanon, and Cyprus. In 1982, he traveled extensively throughout Russia in an old Morris Marina, experiencing constant pursuit by the KGB. These formative experiences led to his renowned travel books, including Among the Russians, Behind the Wall, The Lost Heart of Asia, and In Siberia. His deep commitment to exploring Russia and China is evidenced by his fluency in both Russian and Mandarin, allowing him to connect directly with local people during his journeys.
Beyond his acclaimed travelogues, Thubron is also an award-winning novelist, though his travel books achieve significantly higher recognition and sales. He resides in West London.
