About The Author
Guinness World Records
Sir Hugh Beaver, the then managing director of the Guinness Brewery, initiated the concept for The Guinness Book of Records. While on a shooting party in 1951, he engaged in a debate about the fastest game bird in Europe and realized that a book providing answers to such questions could be popular.
His idea was brought to life by Norris and Ross McWhirter, who ran a fact-finding agency in London. They were commissioned to compile the first edition of The Guinness Book of Records, which was published on August 27, 1955, and quickly became a bestseller in Britain by Christmas of that same year.
Guinness World Records has since grown into a globally recognized authority on world records, distinguished by its commitment to comprehensively and authentically collecting, confirming, accrediting, and presenting record data.
