George Herbert
- 1593: Born on April 3rd in Montgomery, Wales, the fifth son of Richard and Magdalen Herbert.
- 1605: Attends Westminster School.
- 1609: Matriculates at Trinity College, Cambridge.
- 1612: Contributes two memorial poems in Latin, his first published verses, following the death of Prince Henry.
- 1616: Elected a major fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge.
- 1618: Appointed Reader in Rhetoric at Cambridge.
- 1620-1628: Serves as Public Orator at Cambridge.
- 1624: Elected to represent Montgomery in Parliament (re-elected in 1625).
- 1626: Presented with a prebend in Huntingdonshire, near Little Gidding. Contributes a Latin memorial poem upon the death of Bacon.
- 1627: Following his mother’s death, his Memoriae Matris sacrum is published alongside commemorative poems.
- 1629: Marries Jane Danvers.
- 1630: Instituted to the rectory at Bemerton near Salisbury in April; ordained priest in September.
- 1633: Donne’s Poems published.
- 1633, March 1st: Dies of consumption, shortly before his fortieth birthday.
