About The Author

Lisa Portolan

Lisa Portolan is an author and researcher from Sydney. Her PhD research explores digital intimacies, specifically focusing on dating apps and modern romance. She has published three books, including the best-selling “Happy As” and the cult queer literature hit, “The Overthinkers.”

Lisa is a regular contributor to The Conversation, where she writes about love, intimacy, and dating. Her work has also been featured on daytime television and radio. Through Western Sydney University, she investigates concepts such as “high-maintenance women,” the “Aussie Bloke,” and other narratives, cultural idioms, and social trends prevalent in modern dating and romance. She also hosts the popular podcast series “Slow Love,” which was a top ten hit in 2020.

Ben is a PR consultant and the accidental first-time author of “The Overthinkers.” He is an openly gay, cisgender man and the son of first-generation Chinese Malay immigrants. Ben grew up in suburbia, feeling like an outsider in both the ‘Aussie’ and Chinese communities. He sought connections within a very closeted, young LGBT+ community. As a young adult, Ben experienced embarrassment when discussing mental health issues, and hearing similar stories from close friends inspired him to co-write his debut novel with Lisa Portolan.
