Edith Wright
Edith Wright is of Bardi Jawi descent and a retired teacher with over thirty years of experience in education. Her diverse career included roles as a classroom teacher, Principal at Wangkatjungka Remote Community School, and District Aboriginal Education Manager.
In 2000, Fremantle Arts Centre Press WA published her first book, Full Circle, which focuses on her family history. In 2022, Magabala Books published her first children’s book, Charlie’s Swim, timed to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Broome, WA.
Her focus has shifted from literacy to literature. As a Director on the board of Magabala Books, she is dedicated to ensuring First Nations children see their culture reflected in children’s literature. Edith is hopeful that the increasing number of First Nations authors, illustrators, and storytellers engaged in truth-telling through their books will be a game-changer for readers.
