About The Author

Shane Maloney

Born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1953, Shane Maloney is one of Australia’s most popular novelists. His award-winning Murray Whelan series, including Stiff, The Brush-Off, Nice Try, The Big Ask, Something Fishy, and Sucked In, has been published internationally.

Before his writing career, Maloney worked as a rock band booker, a public radio promoter, a public relations officer for the Boy Scouts Association, managed the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and served as a swimming pool lifeguard.

In 1996, The Brush-Off received the Ned Kelly Prize for Crime Fiction. Both Stiff and The Brush-Off were adapted into telemovies in 2004, with David Wenham portraying Murray Whelan. In 2009, Maloney was honored with the Crime Writers’ Association of Australia Lifetime Achievement Award.
