About The Author

Rumiko Takahashi

Rumiko Takahashi’s career began in 1978 when she won an honorable mention in Shogakukan’s New Comic Artist Contest for Those Selfish Aliens. Later that year, her boy-meets-alien comedy series, Urusei Yatsura, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. This successful manga series was adapted into anime format and spawned a TV series and movies. Takahashi followed up with Maison Ikkoku (1980-1987), Ranma 1⁄2 (1987-1996), and Inuyasha (1996-2008). Other notable works include Mermaid Saga, Rumic Theater, and One-Pound Gospel.

Takahashi was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame in 2018. She won the Shogakukan Manga Award twice, for Urusei Yatsura in 1981 and Inuyasha in 2002. A majority of her work has been adapted into other media such as anime, live-action TV series, and film, continuing to delight generations of fans. Distinguished by her endearing characters, Takahashi’s work incorporates comedy, romance, fantasy, and martial arts. Her signature style has become known as the “Rumic World.” Rumiko Takahashi represents the very best from the world of manga.
