What They're Saying

Critics Review

“In this meticulously researched memoir, Dan Melchior digs into so much that our country continues to wrestle with—blue collar men breaking apart, homophobia, racism, doctors dealing drugs, and gun violence. The story, set in Evansville, Indiana, relives decades of challenges that continue to haunt America today. Fortunately, there’s hope in the shape of people like the author’s mother Dolores—loving, hardworking “in the margins,” and accepting of others. The Silk Finisher introduces readers to this quietly remarkable woman who witnessed it all.” – Mary Collins, author of At the Broken Places: A Mother and Trans Son Pick Up the Pieces“Time and again, Daniel Melchior dares to take us past the forgotten headlines, deeper into the shadows of the past. In doing so, he gives us a heartfelt story about family, loss, and, ultimately, the true measure of perseverance.” – Tim Wendel, author of Rebel Falls“With thorough research and sturdy prose, Melchior nimbly weaves many narrative strands into a fascinating tapestry.” – Publishers Weekly
