Critics Review
“A significant contribution to our understanding of Joseph Pilates and his teachings. This book goes further into the history and philosophy of the Method than anything I have previously read in a single volume.”
—JOHN RICCITIELLO, owner of Gratz Industries, the original manufacturer of classical Pilates apparatus
“A brilliant work that is uniquely enlightening in ways both unexpected and profound…. It honors the physical rigor of classical Pilates while weaving together the emotional and psychological dimensions of trauma, flow, and embodied experience.”
—PETER FIASCA, classical Pilates educator, teacher trainer, founder of ClassicalPilates.net, author of Discovering Pure Classical Pilates, and editor of the Voices of Classical Pilates series
“Pilates, Flow, and Healing breaks new ground by weaving together the practice and philosophy of Pilates, trauma healing, and self-attunement into a unified vision. At a moment when technocratic and neoliberal forces conspire to render the body invisible, this book insists on the irreducible significance of physical movement—not only for personal recovery but also as a foundation for caring relationships and a more humane world.”
—MAURICE HAMINGTON, author of Embodied Care
“Rather than treating flow as a peak state to be pursued, Anna Westin and Holly Murray explore it as a process for integration—one that supports greater coherence between body, mind, and experience. In doing so, they offer a compelling lens for understanding the transformative potential of embodied practice. A thoughtful contribution to the growing fields of flow, embodiment, and human flourishing.”
—RIAN DORIS, founder and CEO of FlowState.com and cofounder of Flow Research Collective
“When breath, attention, precision, and movement come together, the Method becomes a living experience of flow. Holly Murray and Anna Westin offer a thoughtful exploration of how this state can support greater integration, vitality, and connection within ourselves. A meaningful contribution to our understanding of what Pilates can become when it is truly lived.”
—JEAN-CLAUDE NELSON, founder of Bluebird Pilates Munich
“A remarkable and deeply researched book that reaches far beyond Pilates as a method of movement…. A thoughtful, comprehensive, and important contribution to the evolving conversation about embodiment, health, and human potential.”
—MAXINE HAMILTON STUBBER, osteopath, psychotherapist, coach and founder of We Own Wellbeing
“A thoughtful and significant contribution to our understanding of Joseph Pilates’s work and its enduring relevance. Holly Murray and Anna Westin skillfully weave together history, philosophy, embodiment, and contemporary perspectives to reveal the deeper processes through which the Pilates Method supports healing and integration.”
—SOPHIA MORE, classical Pilates teacher and teacher trainer, Pi Studios, London
